QLHF By-Laws

Effective 14th April 2011

(amendment 19th May 2011)

Extract

35. Use of Force and the Character of Combat Reenactment.

1. All blows and strikes are delivered to designated target areas in a controlled fashion, with appropriate force so as to ensure the safety and well-being of all combatants whilst retaining the character and style of the period that is being portrayed.

2. No blow is to be delivered with `full force'. All blows are to be delivered in such a manner as the recipient receives contact with the minimum force required to enable the recipient to identify that they have been struck. The technique used to be appropriate to the period portrayed, and protective armour worn and weapon used during combat.

3. For clarity, any combat that has provision for knockout, technical knockout or blows being delivered in an unconstrained manner or with force is expressly prohibited. E.g. boxing is a competitive sport where blows are delivered in an unconstrained manner.

4. It is recognised that combat may involve body contact such as throws, grapples, disarms etc. These techniques may be used dependent upon the authenticity of what is being portrayed, that combatants are trained in their use and deemed competent by their club and are
consistent with the requirements of clause 1 above. These by laws do not prohibit period wrestling or body contact where it is period accurate and conducted in a safe manner
