FORT LYTTON HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION INC
The Fort Lytton Guides were formed in 1988 by a group of ex-servicemen (mostly World War II veterans). From day one they began conducting tours of the Fort, generally on Sundays and public holidays, and for pre-arranged group bookings on weekdays.
A commitment was given that the Fort would be developed into a tourist attraction, with assistance from Qld Parks and Wildlife staff and the Australian Army. Approximately $40,000 raised by the Guides (and including donations from the Royal Australian Artillery Association and other service organisations) was spent in setting up displays in the Canteen, Museum and Gun Park, as well as in building replicas of 4 of the original Guns of Fort Lytton, covering the period 1886 to 1943. Australian Army donated or purchased guns which are in the Museum or in the Gun Park.
The Qld Permanent Artillery (QPA) detachment of the Fort Lytton Historical Association wear QPA uniforms of the 1890's and perform drills from that era on public holidays, Fort Open Days, and during the "History Alive" event held annually at the Fort, on the Queen's birthday weekend in June.
